Without realizing it, we are hit daily with stresses that deplete us. Think about it - children, careers, loved ones, emotional upsets, finances, traffic, and deadlines tap our reserves. Add any extra responsibilities we take on, and soon there is no time to slow down and care for our relaxation needs. We often forget that when we don't stop and give the nervous system time to repair, we jeopardize our own health. Health and vitality are the keys to a full life.
ESSENTIAL OILS Essential oils are considered the life force of plants and are extracted from seeds, roots, resin, flowers, trees, stems, bark, and fruit. Through a process of steam distillation or cold pressing, Nature's Sunshine (NSP) extracts pure oils and makes their healthful benefits available for aromatherapy. The oils from NSP are very pure. This is important because there can be 100 compounds in one oil. If that oil is diluted or tainted with chemicals, you will lose some of the beneficial properties of that oil. Often a bottle will say it is pure, yet it will be diluted with other substances. The oils I use from Nature's Sunshine are highly active and are guaranteed to be pure. The inhalation or external application of aromatic essential oils brings balance to the body. Undiluted lavender and tea tree oils may be applied directly to the skin. All other oils, singles and blends, should be diluted with Nature's Sunshine's Massage Oil which is a blend of unscented apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, hazelnut oil, borage oil, vitamin E, and grapefruit seed extract. Please note the safety page for additional information concerning the use of essential oils.
Essential Oils Quality
It takes a surprisingly large amount of raw material to make essential oils. Because of this, many essential oils on the market today are mixed with chemicals, diluted with lower quality oils or with carrier oils or even synthetic oils in order to keep the price lower. For this reason, you must be very careful in purchasing your essential oils and only buy from a high-quality supplier even if you have to pay a slightly higher price.
Nature’s Sunshine Products makes sure of the quality of their oils. As with all of their products, NSP analyzes each oil to ensure that it meets their high quality standards. Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are two of the tests used to check these oils. These tests make sure that the oils are 100% pure and that they contain the proper constituents. NSP also runs strict olfactory (smell) evaluations, checks the color and clarity of the oils and verifies the species and place of origin of each batch of oil.
Because of their high quality source in France, NSP has only had to return a very few batches of essential oils because they did not meet their exacting specifications.
The more you use essential oils, the easier it will be to determine the best oils on the market. Don’t be fooled by fancy labels, smell the products to be sure they are good oils. Use only the best oils available, especially when using them for therapeutic reasons. Click here for essential oil safety information.
